 The Center for Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College - the Center for Southwest Studies was established in 1964 to serve as a museum and a research facility and to develop an interdisciplinary Southwest curriculum. The Southwest curriculum draws from courses in Anthropology, Art, Literature, History, and Sociology. The Center's collection of Southwestern artifacts and historical records and its large collection of books and other printed materials, many of them rare, addressing every aspect of the Southwest, are a resource for every member of the community and beyond. The Center's mission is to identify, preserve, and make accessible this resource for all who are interested in the history of the Four Corners region. open Monday-Friday 1-4 p.m. while the college is in session.
Animas Museum - Within the walls of the historic 1904 Animas City School lies the exciting world of La Plata County History. Through our exhibits, programs, photo archives, and research library we will transport you back to Durango's early days. Make the Animas Museum one of your first stops in town and your visit to Durango is guaranteed to be a more enjoyable and colorful experience. May - Oct, Mon - Sat, 10am-6pm. Railroad Museum - A wonderful experience for the entire family. Featuring a "Roundhouse" Type experience with many great artifacts of the 1880's. Located at the Railroad Depot on the South end of Main Avenue, Downtown
Durango Discovery Museum - The Durango Discovery Museum is an energy and science museum planned for Durango’s 1893 Power House, along the banks of the Animas River. It is in the process of development and is an exciting addition to Durango's many historic presentations. They are located at the intersection of Camino del Rio and Main Avenue.
